Dear Reader,

Hello and welcome! It is the first day of Spring and I couldn’t think of a more perfect day to initiate new beginnings. I am so excited that you’ve found your way here. I’ve created West of One as an online resource that will explore the beauty and tension that exists between sustainability and design.

If you are reading this, you likely believe that sustainable design, whether that takes form as a home, product or art piece, is not only nice to have, but necessary. The intent behind West of One is to highlight conversations that are both inspirational and educational, and to present those conversations in a way that is enlightening, not overwhelming. 

While facts and figures have their place when discussing a topic like sustainability, what I believe will drive change is forming connections between what needs to be done and what motivates us individually. West of One seeks to examine those motivating factors through a lens of passion and emotion. Because this whole conversation is emotional. Art is emotional, design is emotional and caring for the people and places we love is, more of than not, emotion driven.

Ultimately, West of One is a celebration of our earth and the creators, designers, tastemakers, and change-makers who are working to make it a healthier and more beautiful place. I can’t wait to celebrate with you!
